It's the middle of the month, yet I feel compelled to do a 'February Favourites' video. Since I traditionally film these videos at the end of each month, I thought I would keep the tradition and wait to film my February Favourites (as there's still 14 more days to make new favourites!) However, in the mean time I thought it would be nice to take some photos of the things I'm loving at the moment and show you guys here on my blog.
I love that I take completely different photos with my Fujifilm Instax Mini camera to any other cameras I use, whether it's my iphone, DSLR or vlog camera. I feel like I take photos that mean more to me and really capture the moment when I use this camera. It's also quite wonderful to be able to have an instant photograph you can actually hold in your hand.
I bought this sparkly bracelet a long time ago from J Crew (I think it was when I was in LA and my friend Ingrid had just introduced me to the shop). I've recently been reaching for this bracelet almost every day to add a little sparkle to my typical daily attire - cashmere jumper, leather leggings and ankle boots. It just makes me happy every time I wear it!
I'm currently a quarter of the way through The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and I think it's incredible. I can't review it properly until I finish it (maybe it'll be in my Feb Faves video where I can talk about it in more depth!) but I will say that it's extremely gripping and I'm really enjoying seeing the characters evolve and wondering what will happen next.
Oh my goodness I am obsessed with these doughnuts! If it's time for a sweet treat then these are exactly what I will go for at the moment. I first discovered Dum Dum Donutterie back in October last year when Jim got me some to say well done on my lash launch for my makeup line, I had the creme brulee and was amazed at the yumminess. The other day I popped in and got these beauties for a meeting - how cute is the little 'I <3 U' one?!
I bought these Helmut Lang boots in the sale in New York. I'm one of those people who is terrible at shopping as I can never be bothered to try anything on! However, I was in New York with the shopping King and Queens (yes, multiple Queens) Jim and his two sisters Sam and Nic, and his mum, Judy. We had spent an hour in Helmut Lang already and just as we were leaving Nic tried these boots on in grey and we all oohed and ahhed at how great they looked. Sam proceeded to find them in my size in black (as I had said I was after a black heeled pair of ankle boots) and suddenly I was walking out of the door with the most perfect boots I've ever owned. I've probably worn them 99% of the time since being back from New York and they just look so cool with everything. LOVE.
I could look at this underwear set all day it's just too beautiful. I treated myself to my first ever designer underwear the other day and decided Agent Provocateur was the brand I wanted to go for as I've dreamed about owning something from them for years. I chose this nude set (as nude goes under any colour) with beautiful floral details. There's something about wearing an incredible underwear set underneath your clothes that just makes you go about your day with more confidence.
How did I only just discover this NARS Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella?! It's the most perfect red lip colour, such a true and deep beautiful shade. I wore it out to a party the other night where I was drinking and eating and I got home, looked in the mirror and it hadn't budged. The staying power is unbeatable. I rarely wear a red lip as I always find it too much effort to reapply throughout the day/evening, I also struggle to find a shade of red I actually like on me - but now I have one I'm going to wear red lips all the time! (Copious amount of instagrams and a tutorial using Cruella to follow).
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, I forget how much I enjoy blogging and I've vowed to make more time for it this year. Leave me a comment telling me what you're loving at the moment :)
The signings are ticketed for health and safety reasons and the exact location will only be given out to those who have tickets a couple of days before the event. I don't want anyone to be disappointed, so if you don't manage to get a ticket please don't make a big effort to come as I might not be able to meet you and would feel really bad. The ticket price covers the cost of one book and a free exclusive poster, nothing extra is added on top. I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET LOTS OF YOU - IT'S GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN!
Here are some frequently asked questions that Penguin, my publishers, have created:
I just got sent some beautiful photos from my friend Katie and photographer Richard Young of my book launch party. I have been reliving the evening just now looking through all the photos with a huge smile on my face. I feel like my book Love, Tanya is my greatest achievement and so it was just marvellous to be able to celebrate it's publication with all of my loved ones in such a special place. I put my heart and soul into my book and it encapsulates everything I love in life and am passionate about; beauty, fashion, baking, relationships, my childhood and most importantly, happiness. Since last Thursday when Love, Tanya was officially released I cannot believe how many of you have gone out and got it. My twitter mentions have been filled with your wonderful photos of you holding the book (I want to do a collage of all your photos, so keep sending them!), you baking my recipes from the book and your sweet messages telling me how the Confidence and Happiness chapter has helped you feel more self-assured and happy. Honestly, these tweets have been making me the happiest girl alive this past week. I can't thank you all enough for your support and I'm very pleased you are enjoying my book.
If you haven't got Love, Tanya yet, here are the links to where you can get it:
It's time to begin the countdown to my very first book! I can't believe I just wrote that and it's true! Sometimes this all just feels like a dream and I think I'm going to wake up any minute now. You guys have all been asking me about the release date of Love, Tanya and so here it is...
Thursday 29th January
That's only 22 days away! EEK! You can pre-order it at these places online:
I've also had a lot of questions about the book in general, so I thought I would tell you a bit more about it here on my blog.
Books have always been a huge part of my life from a very young age, my first books were a series called Spot by Eric Hill, although I think I used to play with them, chew them and dribble on them, more than I actually read them! The first novel I read was Pretty Polly by Dick King Smith. This story is really close to my heart, as I think it was really the beginning of my love for reading. Reading for me is not just about the book (although that obviously plays a huge part), it's about the whole experience of curling up under a blanket on the sofa with a cup of tea, switching off all electronics and completely losing myself in a story. I once thought I would like to write a novel myself, I had all these ideas - it was going to be a historical fiction set in the 1600's! Then I realised I wouldn't actually know where to start and I was never going to be the next Philippa Gregory. I started brainstorming ideas for a book that I thought my viewers would appreciate and I came up with the idea that is now Love, Tanya. I wanted to write a book that told a bit of my story, things I have never shared before, without it ending up being an autobiography. I also wanted to talk about my journey to becoming confident and happy about who I am, in the hope that it might help people reading it feel more confident and happy. I feel I've learnt a lot over the last few years, through working with industry experts and from trying things out at home in my videos. I wanted to share my tips on beauty, fashion, baking, love, friendship, the world of YouTube and just life in general. I don't want to repeat too much of what I have already said in the initial YouTube video I made announcing my book, but I just want to tell you guys a bit about how it happened. I will try to keep it brief!
I basically got together my book idea and took it round to lots of different publishers. Most said no, I guess there wasn't a gap in the market for this kind of book at the time. However, after a few months I went back and tried again and a couple of publishers said they would like to publish my book! However, I had my heart set on Penguin, just because they were the main publishing house I had heard of growing up and I had read so many books by them. I just felt it would be so exciting to have my very own book published my them.
One day in September my dreams came true!
Penguin said my book idea needed developing a bit and needed double the chapters I had planned. They also wanted to publish the book in January 2015, which meant it had to go to print before Christmas! Penguin hired an amazing writer, Georgina Rodgers, to help me. Although I wanted to write the whole book myself, I knew it wasn't realistic with the time scale we had to work to. Georgina came over almost every day for a week and we just talked loads with a dictaphone running, I told her all about the chapters I had planned and she suggested new ones and we basically just brainstormed. Georgina then went home and transcribed our days of chatting and came up with a draft and structure for the book. I then spent all my time working on the text.
Also, before the deadline (which was the end of November) I had to choose every photo I wanted in the book and where I wanted them placed, did two very exciting professional photoshoots and one not so professional - I did all the photography for the baking chapter and had to bake eleven things in two days, my flat was COVERED in flour and I had enough cake to feed an army! My friend Kate came over to join in with the baking extravaganza and she too got covered in flour. I actually think I have a little video on my phone of the mayhem on my flat that I just filmed for me to keep, but maybe I'll post it if you guys would like to see it!
Jim is looking over my shoulder whilst I'm typing right now and says I need to tell you guys about me sleepwalking! One night, I had been working on the book until really late and Jim had happened to stay up ironing (?!) and watching The Walking Dead until 4am. I think I'd fallen asleep writing at about 1am and Jim said that at about 2am I walked into the kitchen all hunched over and starting pacing up and down saying "I just need to write a bit more...just need to write..." Haha! I would have been completely freaked out if I was Jim! Especially if I had been watching The Walking Dead!
Anyway, this blog post is getting really long, so I am going to end it here. I hope you guys are getting as excited for my book as I am!
I am so excited that the cover of my upcoming book has just been finalised, which means I can show you guys! I'm so happy with the cover. I designed it using a website called PicMonkey, (to make all the squares and choose the photos I wanted in them) as I am no graphic designer and even if I had photoshop, I wouldn't know how to use it haha. Then, the design team at Penguin were amazing and helped my amateur designs come to life and look all professional and stuff! I actually finished working on Love, Tanya at the very end of November and it will be out early in 2015...not too long to wait! Although it feels like forever to me!
Let me know what you think of the cover in the comments and on twitter using the hashtag #LoveTanya :)
