It's time to begin the countdown to my very first book! I can't believe I just wrote that and it's true! Sometimes this all just feels like a dream and I think I'm going to wake up any minute now. You guys have all been asking me about the release date of Love, Tanya and so here it is...
Thursday 29th January
That's only 22 days away! EEK! You can pre-order it at these places online:
I've also had a lot of questions about the book in general, so I thought I would tell you a bit more about it here on my blog.
Books have always been a huge part of my life from a very young age, my first books were a series called Spot by Eric Hill, although I think I used to play with them, chew them and dribble on them, more than I actually read them! The first novel I read was Pretty Polly by Dick King Smith. This story is really close to my heart, as I think it was really the beginning of my love for reading. Reading for me is not just about the book (although that obviously plays a huge part), it's about the whole experience of curling up under a blanket on the sofa with a cup of tea, switching off all electronics and completely losing myself in a story. I once thought I would like to write a novel myself, I had all these ideas - it was going to be a historical fiction set in the 1600's! Then I realised I wouldn't actually know where to start and I was never going to be the next Philippa Gregory. I started brainstorming ideas for a book that I thought my viewers would appreciate and I came up with the idea that is now Love, Tanya. I wanted to write a book that told a bit of my story, things I have never shared before, without it ending up being an autobiography. I also wanted to talk about my journey to becoming confident and happy about who I am, in the hope that it might help people reading it feel more confident and happy. I feel I've learnt a lot over the last few years, through working with industry experts and from trying things out at home in my videos. I wanted to share my tips on beauty, fashion, baking, love, friendship, the world of YouTube and just life in general. I don't want to repeat too much of what I have already said in the initial YouTube video I made announcing my book, but I just want to tell you guys a bit about how it happened. I will try to keep it brief!
I basically got together my book idea and took it round to lots of different publishers. Most said no, I guess there wasn't a gap in the market for this kind of book at the time. However, after a few months I went back and tried again and a couple of publishers said they would like to publish my book! However, I had my heart set on Penguin, just because they were the main publishing house I had heard of growing up and I had read so many books by them. I just felt it would be so exciting to have my very own book published my them.
One day in September my dreams came true!
Penguin said my book idea needed developing a bit and needed double the chapters I had planned. They also wanted to publish the book in January 2015, which meant it had to go to print before Christmas! Penguin hired an amazing writer, Georgina Rodgers, to help me. Although I wanted to write the whole book myself, I knew it wasn't realistic with the time scale we had to work to. Georgina came over almost every day for a week and we just talked loads with a dictaphone running, I told her all about the chapters I had planned and she suggested new ones and we basically just brainstormed. Georgina then went home and transcribed our days of chatting and came up with a draft and structure for the book. I then spent all my time working on the text.
Also, before the deadline (which was the end of November) I had to choose every photo I wanted in the book and where I wanted them placed, did two very exciting professional photoshoots and one not so professional - I did all the photography for the baking chapter and had to bake eleven things in two days, my flat was COVERED in flour and I had enough cake to feed an army! My friend Kate came over to join in with the baking extravaganza and she too got covered in flour. I actually think I have a little video on my phone of the mayhem on my flat that I just filmed for me to keep, but maybe I'll post it if you guys would like to see it!
Jim is looking over my shoulder whilst I'm typing right now and says I need to tell you guys about me sleepwalking! One night, I had been working on the book until really late and Jim had happened to stay up ironing (?!) and watching The Walking Dead until 4am. I think I'd fallen asleep writing at about 1am and Jim said that at about 2am I walked into the kitchen all hunched over and starting pacing up and down saying "I just need to write a bit more...just need to write..." Haha! I would have been completely freaked out if I was Jim! Especially if I had been watching The Walking Dead!
Anyway, this blog post is getting really long, so I am going to end it here. I hope you guys are getting as excited for my book as I am!
I am so excited that the cover of my upcoming book has just been finalised, which means I can show you guys! I'm so happy with the cover. I designed it using a website called PicMonkey, (to make all the squares and choose the photos I wanted in them) as I am no graphic designer and even if I had photoshop, I wouldn't know how to use it haha. Then, the design team at Penguin were amazing and helped my amateur designs come to life and look all professional and stuff! I actually finished working on Love, Tanya at the very end of November and it will be out early in 2015...not too long to wait! Although it feels like forever to me!
Let me know what you think of the cover in the comments and on twitter using the hashtag #LoveTanya :)
I am so excited that my limited edition Christmas lip gloss, "Mistletoe Kisses", is out today! I think a glittery red lip gloss is the perfect way to add a festive touch to your regular makeup look and I can't wait to wear it to all the Christmas parties! There are a limited number available, only from Cloud10 Beauty online (Feel Unique & Superdrug should have stock soon!) - tweet me a photo if you manage to get your hands on one! I would love to see you guys looking all Christmassy wearing Mistletoe Kisses with your favourite party dress.
Leave me a comment letting me know if you have any exciting party plans this Christmas with work, friends or family! I have a really exciting work party coming up in December...just need to find something to wear! *runs to Topshop*
I am so excited to be launching two glitter nail polishes for Tanya Burr Cosmetics! These are part of the limited edition Christmas trios. I am a huge fan of anything sparkly and these glittery polishes are perfect for the party season. I feel festive just looking at them! I named the rose gold glitter "Fairytale" and the multicoloured glitter "Fireworks". Naming my products is one of my favourite elements of the whole process. I tend to wear the glitters on the tips of my nails or just on one feature nail, however, you could go all out and paint all your nails with them! I've also got a new nail polish in the classic glossy formula; it's a black called "Dark Magic". Other than these three polishes, all the colours in the trios are existing colours in the range. For now, these three new polishes are only available for the Christmas period as part of the trios. I hope you like them!
Left to Right: Dark Magic, Fairytale, Mini Marshmallows. Midnight Sparkles, Penguin Chick, Riding Hood. New York Night, Fireworks, Mischief Managed.
I absolutely love the initial lip gloss shades I did for Tanya Burr Cosmetics, however, I felt there were a few essential colours missing from the collection. I'm so excited to be adding 8 new colours to the range, so there are now 20 colours in total! This isn't an "Autumn/ Winter collection" or anything, I have been working on these colours since the last ones launched, so they are just part of the classic collection now - although I do have a limited edition Christmas lip gloss!
HERE ARE THE NEW COLOURS!
Left-Right: Enchanted Forest, Berry Picking, Chocolate Fondue, Lunch Date, Daydream, Sparkling Dewdrops, I Found Nemo, Aphrodite
I had so much fun naming the lip glosses and I love all the colours so much - I hope you guys do too!
