I feel like conquering the perfect everyday outfit can be really tricky, but once you have it sorted, it feels so good and it makes getting dressed in the morning a whole lot easier! (Say goodbye to constant floordrobe and torturous screams of ‘I have nothing to wear!’) I like to have about four staple everyday looks each season, so I can change my outfit depending on how I’m feeling and what I’m doing that day. I think it’s important to have different go-to looks as I change quite dramatically from day to day how I want to show myself to the world. That’s the reason I love fashion, there are so many different looks you can achieve with clothes and so many different sides of yourself you can portray – that’s the fun of it! A couple of years ago I was definitely stuck in a rut with fashion, I tried on a skater dress (one that is fitted at the waist and skims off the hips), realised it flattered my shape and thought ‘ok then, I’ll fill my wardrobe with these’ and became terrified of anything that showed off my hips, bum and thighs. However, not only did this get boring, but I felt trapped in the same look. Always wearing a feminine floaty dress limited me to how I could feel in an outfit (if that makes sense). One day I decided to not give a **** that I’m not stick thin and just go for it and wear what I want to wear and what reflects how I am feeling in that moment. It was liberating. I wasn’t planning to talk about what fashion means to me in this blog post, but I was just looking through the photos and thinking wow, I never would have worn this outfit a year ago.
Anyway, I wanted to share with you one of my new staple looks. I bought these Topshop trousers over the Christmas holidays and have worn them at least eight times already. They’re so comfortable, but also smart, so perfect for going to meetings in or feeling put together on a shoot (that’s where I spent most of last week – on the set of a food shoot for my upcoming book, Tanya Bakes). I wear these trousers with a simple grey or white t-shirt tucked in, converse on my feet and either this coat or my parka. Sometimes I wear a black fitted roll-neck jumper tucked into them if it’s really cold and I love the way that looks. I know super long coats are usually made for tall people to wear, but I have a thing for shorter people in really long coats at the moment so I’m breaking the rules! In my opinion, there are no rules in fashion anyway.
I hope you guys are having a great day and please let me know in the comments what your go-to outfits are!
